18 inch Rollo Chain, 1.24mm Wide, Rhodium Plated 925 Sterling Silver

This is a very nice quality Rollo chain, fashioned from Sterling Silver with rhodium plating over the top.

Rhodium plating is a process commonly used to enhance the durability of sterling silver chains. Sterling silver, while prized for its lustrous beauty, can tarnish over time due to exposure to air and certain chemicals. Rhodium plating offers a solution to this issue.

When a sterling silver chain is rhodium plated, a thin layer of rhodium, a rare and highly reflective metal from the platinum group, is applied to its surface. This plating creates a protective barrier, shielding the silver from oxidation and reducing the risk of tarnishing. As a result, the chain maintains its polished look for a longer period. It also helps to minimize scratches, dents, and signs of wear, prolonging the lifespan of the jewellery piece.

It’s important to note that over time, the rhodium plating may wear off with regular use, revealing the natural color of the sterling silver underneath. However, many jewelers offer re-plating services to restore the chain’s original appearance and protection.

The effect of the rhodium plating on this chain’s appearance is that the metal doesn’t look quite the same as bright almost-white Sterling Silver – instead it has a deep lustrous appearance. This isn’t for everyone but it is my personal preference for chains, as nearly all of my own pendants are oxidised. Sometimes when you put an oxidised pendant on a flashy white chain, it’s not such a great combination – but the rhodium plated chains are SUCH a great match. I particularly like this in combination with our fully oxidised pendants such as our gorgeous wolf.

Measuring 18 inches, the chain is lightweight at 1.24mm thickness and maintains a quality feel.
